Here’s what every button on an F1 steering wheel does

Glancing at a modern Formula 1 race car‘s steering wheel reveals a very complex contraption, and it’s just as in-depth of a wheel as it suggests. Mercedes-AMG, the reigning F1 champion, recently published a video with driver Valtteri Bottas to give fans a closer look at what action each button performs. Obviously, some of the finer details are shrouded in mystery since the team doesn’t want to give away any of its performance secrets. For example, Bottas shows us the “Strat” knob, which controls power mode settings during a race.…

2021 BMW iX3 spy shots

Prototypes for an electric version of the BMW X3 have been spotted and follow an earlier sighting of a test mule. The vehicle, which will go by the name iX3, is confirmed for launch in late 2020, meaning we’ll likely see it arrive as a 2021 model. After stumbling with the oddball i3, BMW decided to change its approach to electric cars by developing battery-powered versions of its core models as opposed to launching standalone EVs. The move makes more sense now that electric cars are becoming more widely accepted,…

Modifications to the front fenders suggest a longer wheelbase, and the protruding tires suggest the width will be bumped up slightly. The rear overhang has also been stretched meaning Toyota may be looking to increase space…

The 2019 BMW X7 has grit, grille, and grandeur

Somewhere on the interstate between Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina, it finally clicks, like the incessant drops of rain on the glass. We’re not getting any decent weather on this first drive of the 2019 BMW X7. No useful turns, either. The descent into Low Country evaporates all hope of an interesting kink or two in the road. It’s flat and marshy and, thank goodness, it’s the celestial home of shrimp and grits, perfect food for both the brain and the soul. When the last bits of yellow disappear from…
